For CPAs

Your gambling clients changed. Their records didn't.

The records now arrive as operator exports. TaxBet turns them into a reviewable workpaper for the return file — session ledger, W-2G reconciliation, methodology with citations — and leaves the filing treatment to you.

Shollenberger v. Commissioner (2009): the taxpayers entered with $500, hit a $2,000 slot jackpot with a W-2G issued, and walked out with $1,600 — the Court accepted an $1,100 gain, not the $2,000 on the form. One session, one number.

The problem walked into your office

Gambling clients used to bring a shoebox or a casino win/loss statement. Now they bring five apps, thousands of transactions, and a stack of W-2Gs that overstate their income — and the win/loss statement, the traditional baseline, is exactly the weak-evidence document the session method exists to replace. Even preparers who've handled gambling income for years have never had tooling for online-era volume, because until now the volume didn't exist.

Three computations, one engagement — the 2027 problem

The same year of client data now demands three separate computations: the federal session method (Chief Counsel Advice AM2008-011; Notice 2015-21), the new 90% loss cap layered on top — a rule no preparer has filed under, because TY2026 is the first year it applies — and state math that follows neither: Pennsylvania's cost-of-wagers netting on Schedule T, New Jersey's netting, Michigan's deduction rules. Reconstructing that by hand from raw exports is hours of low-leverage work — or a client you turn away.

What TaxBet hands you

Firm pricing for the 2026 filing season will be announced before season; individual workpapers are available now at the published tiers.

Your client runs the upload — their files are parsed and computed in their browser, and their report and data file live on their device. You receive a workpaper with source references, methodology notes, data-coverage indicators, and exceptions for your review.

Where you stay in charge

TaxBet computes and documents; it does not file, sign, advise, or represent. Filing positions are yours. The workpaper shows its methodology and citations precisely so you can disagree with it.

The workpaper shows AGI under each position and the 90% cap exposure, so the comparison is visible, not asserted.

Two ways to use it

Client-initiatedThey arrive with the workpaper; you file with real substantiation instead of a win/loss PDF.
You-initiatedSend a gambling client to TaxBet the way you'd send them to collect any records — except these arrive reconciled.

How the handoff works

  1. Invite or refer a client. Send them to TaxBet the way you'd send them to collect any records.
  2. The client imports supported records locally. Their operator exports are parsed and computed in their browser; nothing is uploaded.
  3. TaxBet surfaces data coverage, W-2G reconciliation status, and exceptions. Every form reconciled or flagged; missing records named.
  4. The client shares the workpaper or export. The TaxBet-Data file, or the raw exports, reach you under your firm's own handling procedures.
  5. You review and determine the filing treatment. The workpaper is reviewable evidence for the return file — the position is yours.

This season: a free seat

Free seat for firms this season. Your client pays the report price; the workpaper lands in both places. First client free.

How client data reaches you

Your client hands you the data file TaxBet gave them at purchase (TaxBet-Data-year.json) — or their raw operator exports. Drop it into the CPA portal and the workpaper renders on your machine: a client roster, review status, your own review attestation, and a downloadable workpaper file. Everything is parsed and computed in your browser and stays on your device; nothing is uploaded anywhere.

We match notice-holders and filers with professionals who know the session method — in their state, at their preferred rates, paid directly to them.

Honest limits. The engine is tested against 480,000+ rows of real transaction history across four operators' export formats, with a ground-truth suite that must stay green on every change. TaxBet is not tax advice and not a substitute for professional judgment — it's the substantiation under yours.
